Viola d'amore

Viola d'amore

With the body (resonance box) very similar to the viola da gamba, the viola d'amore usually has 6 or 7 sympathetic strings - which makes it have 12 or 14 strings in all - and was widely used in the Baroque period. It is played under the chin, just like the violin.
