Composer and conductor, at the age of 16 he wrote ladainhas, prayers, processions and pieces for singing and piano. He is the patron of chair 14 of the Brazilian Academy of Music and author of A noite de São João, the first opera written and performed in Brazil. He composed 15 Masses, 2 operas and hundreds of pieces for singing and piano as well as for bands.
