Resident in Rio de Janeiro since 1969, Caio obtained his master and PhD degree in Composition at UFRJ. His catalogue contains 221 works with emphasis on chamber music, instrumental and vocal music. Winner of the 2011 Icatú Arts Prize, he earned an artistic-residency scholarship at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. He is the vice-director of the Villa-Lobos Institute.
