A Portuguese composer, he assumed in 1774 the role of chapel master at the Sé Church in São Paulo, remaining in Brazil until his death. There he organized a free music school and an orchestra. From his wide musical production, about 130 are the most well-known, among them hymns, litanies, masses, offertories, and in addiction, he also wrote a treatise on counterpoint.
