Kilza studied composition with Camargo Guarnieri. PhD in anthropology, she founded the Brazilian Folklore Association and took part in UNESCO’s project The Universe of Music: a History. With ten awarded works in national contests (Ricordi, MEC and Funarte), her catalogue has about 70 musical pieces for various formations. She occupies chair n.9 of the Brazilian Music Academy.
