Pianist, professor, composer and conductor, Vânia studied piano and composition at UFRJ Music School. In 1973 she won her first composition prize. In the same year, she was the conductor of Municipal Theatre of Rio de Janeiro's orchestra. She worked mainly on the electroacoustic music and the use of conventional instruments together different medias.
