Anton Walter Smetak

1913 - 1984

With Czech origins, he studied cello in Salzburg and performed alongside Pablo Casals. Came to Brazil in 1937 and played in casinos and radio orchestras in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Invited by Koellreutter, he moved to Salvador and started teaching in UFBA, where he did sound researches and built non-conventional instruments. He is the author of over 30 books and 3 plays.
